An Islam-focused symposium organized by the Muslim World League and in cooperation with the University of the Comoros, under the auspices of Comoros President Azali Assoumani, called for increasing initiatives and programs designed to promote Islamic awareness to counter extremism.
The forum, which was held under the title "The First Pillar in the Islamic Awareness", called for intensifying conferences and forums among the nation's scholars to review and seek solutions for to outstanding issues, as well as address attempts to weaken the Islamic authority.
Assoumani, for his part, praised efforts spent by the MWL, saying the body helps spread the values of moderation and promote international peace and security.
MWL Chief Mohammed Al-Issa delivered a speech calling for compliance with the Islamic spirit of unity and teachings with respect to advancing tolerance.
Head Union of African Scientists Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Loh stressed the important role MWL efforts play in the development of the African continent.
The MWL, according to Loh, has also helped in promoting awareness on the true teachings of Islam that are “far from violence and ignorance and destructive and extremist ideas.”
