Saudi 'Citizen Account' Deposits SR2.5 Billion for Beneficiaries
Saudi Arabia’s Citizen Account Program announced depositing SR 2.5 billion (approximately $ 650 million) for selected beneficiaries for May. Total compensation for the previous installment, paid retroactively, stood at SR 14.5 million.
The percentage of eligible beneficiaries for this installment was 83%, which covers more than 12.3 million individuals and entities. Insofar, the total disbursed payments, since the start of the program, amounts to more than SR 42.5 billion (approximately $11 billion).
The Citizen Account Program in Saudi Arabia is a cash transfer program that started in December 2017. It is adopted and implemented by The Ministry of Labor and Social Development. Through the program, citizens in Saudi Arabia get monthly payments from the state.
At least 44% of the total beneficiaries received full benefits with an average support of SR 1,000 per household, and that the heads of households benefiting from the program exceeded 2.2 million, while the number of dependants exceeds 8.6 million. In May 2019 alone, more than 1.4 million beneficiaries will receive state allowances.
