Saudi Arabia Launches Program to Achieve Efficient Government Spending

Tuesday, 1 October, 2019 - 12:00

Three government entities have launched a program that will help achieve efficient government spending in procurement.

The program targets 1,500 specialized employees working in the purchasing departments in ministries and state institutions as part of their qualification target to activate the new competition system by the end of 2019.

The Ministry of Finance, the Center of Spending Efficiency (CSE), in cooperation with the Institute of Public Administration and the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, launched Monday the first training program for the new government competition and procurement system targeting state procurement staff.

The 10-day program is hosted by the Institute of Public Administration in its branches in the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Tabuk and Abha with the participation of 200 employees of procurement specialists in various government agencies.

Executive Chairman of the CSE Eng. Abdul Razzag al-Aujan highlighted the importance of the changes brought about by the new system, especially at the procedural level of procurement staff.

Aujan pointed out that the training program prepares the staff for these changes to ensure a smooth and effective transition, which is expected in early December.

The Ministry of Finance and CSE are working to enable government agencies through this program to play their role in the new system and achieve its objectives, Aujan explained.

He said the CSE is committed to empowering procurement staff in government departments, informing them details about the new government competition and procurement system and providing them with training and qualification opportunities according to the highest standards.
