With schools suspended until further notice over Coronavirus concerns, homes in Saudi Arabia were transformed to virtual schools that ensure students continue their education.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Education had directed the activation of “virtual schools” and distance learning during the suspension period.
The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) directed telecommunications companies to count the free tariff for the approved educational and health digital platforms, as part of the efforts aimed at facilitating the educational process, and providing digital alternatives in accordance with the social responsibility of telecommunications companies during the current period.
The educational platforms which are listed in the free data tariff included the National Education Portal.
The platforms contain advanced digital solutions that provide digital educational contents and tools, the ability to perform homework and school tests, as well as providing effective channels of communication among students, school staff and parents.
The free data tariff also included the (Sehha) application, which aims to facilitate the use of free medical consulting services via smart devices for cases that may not require visiting the health centers.
Munira al-Subeit, a mother of three, said that the diversity in introducing the information solidifies the material in the children’s learning minds.
Subeit added that she, alongside other mothers, have touched a positive interaction between the children and e-learning platform.
“We also noticed that the lessons currently presented through the ministry’s online platform are adequate in following where the lessons stopped for students, because the ministry’s plan is unified in distributing the curriculum between schools,” Subeit noted.
