A Fatah movement official urged Palestinian parties to join efforts in the current stage, including Hamas movement which should return to the legitimacy.
Speaking to Voice of Palestine Radio, Secretary of Fatah's Revolutionary Council, Majed al-Fatiani, indicated that Fatah’s central committee convened Sunday, while the executive committee will meet Monday.
Fatiani stressed that the successive meetings come within the framework of developing mechanisms to defend the Palestinian leadership’s decision to terminate agreements with Israel. They also aim to establish plans to confront the Israeli occupation and settlers.
He pointed out that direct meetings are being held between Fatah movement and other Palestinian factions to set the mechanisms of each region depending on its nature and needs.
Fatah Central Committee discussed Sunday establishing mechanisms to follow up the implementation of the decision taken by President Mahmoud Abbas last month, when he terminated all agreements with Israel and the United States, including security cooperation.
Abbas’ decision comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s promised to annex parts of the West Bank.
The meeting stressed that Fatah and its leadership will assume responsibility for the difficult and dangerous coming stage, based on a clear agenda to defend the Palestinian cause and the rights of the people.
A critical stage awaits Palestinians if Israel goes ahead with its annexation plans in the West Bank, which means the Palestinian Authority (PA) must commit to Abbas’ decisions to end all security and economic agreements with Israel, activate popular resistance, and seek statehood declaration.
