The Saudi-led Arab coalition intercepted and destroyed an explosive-laden drone at Saudi Arabia’s Abha international airport and a remotely controlled explosive-laden boat in the south of the Red Sea launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen on Sunday.

As a result of intercepting the drone, some splinters fell on the airport, causing no injuries or damage, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Malki said the explosive-laden boat, which was launched from Yemen’s Hodeidah province, posed a threat to regional and international security, shipping routes and global trade.

The Houthis are using Hodeidah as a platform to launch ballistic missile, drones and booby-trapped boats and arbitrarily plant naval mines, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Stockholm Agreement that calls for a ceasefire in the coastal province.

“The coalition will continue to implement all rigorous deterrent measures against this terrorist militia and neutralize and destroy such capabilities that pose a threat to regional and international security,” he vowed.
