Words and languages have significant power when it comes to general speech or self-expression. Therefore, Washington has opened the Planet Word Museum dedicated to words and language.
The new museum offers interactive exhibitions that encourage visitors to experience the reading of famous speeches on a teleprompter, or signing iconic karaoke songs to feel why these words have left an impact on the audience.
The 6.7-meter talking word wall tells the story of the English language, while in another room, visitors of all ages can learn about other languages through a uniquely prepared video series, the German News Agency reported.
The museum still has months before being fully opened. Its inauguration had been postponed in early spring due to the coronavirus crisis. Although Planet Word offers a free entrance, people are required to book their visit ahead and specify the date and time as part of health restrictions.
The mission of Planet Word Museum established by Ann Friedman is "renewing and inspiring the love of words and language as a foundation of a modern, powerful democracy."
The museum is located at the historic Franklin School, where the American inventor Alexander Graham Bill made his first successful attempt to wirelessly transmit voice through photophone.
