Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman stressed on Friday that his country plays significant roles in protecting the global economy from several crises.
In remarks to the Saudi Press Agency, he said that the Kingdom has played a pioneering role in the G20 and participated effectively since it was inaugurated in the late 1990s.
This participation stems from its position as one of the globe’s most important countries both politically and economically and its standing in the Arab and Muslim world, he explained.
The G20 is the world’s top economic platform, which only underscores Saudi Arabia’s role, he went on to say.
Moreover, the Kingdom has demonstrated pioneering traits and extraordinary leadership in combating the novel coronavirus pandemic and its repercussions, said Prince Abdulaziz.
He stated that the Kingdom has gone beyond its role as G20 President and presented initiatives and projects that will benefit people all over the world. It has also helped in protecting the global economy, called for launching incentive packages, supported the suspension of the debt of poor countries and kicked off initiatives aimed at empowering the youth and women.
On the role of G20 energy ministers’ meetings, he said that they focus on boosting cooperation in order to reach a balance in the global energy markets and secure supplies. They also address carbon emissions and pollution, seek to achieve sustainable development and enable people to use cleaner energy.
Prince Abdulaziz said that the energy ministry’s participation in G20 meetings is part of its effort to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The transformation program envisages Saudi Arabia’s pioneering global role and seeks to invest all of its capabilities to develop the national and global economy, while still contributing to the stability of the world’s energy markets.
