The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) launched two medical projects Wednesday in the interim Yemeni capital, Aden, that would improve medical services and serve more patients.
The projects were inaugurated in the presence of Aden Governor, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, the Director-General of the Health Office in Aden, Ali Saleh, and SDRPY director in Aden, Eng. Ahmed Madkhali.
The Saudi program stated that the first project will equip the dialysis center in the Republican Hospital with hemodialysis chairs, Lithotripsy machines, and AquaBplus dialysis water treatment systems.
It increases the capacity of the center to serve the largest number of patients inside and outside Aden, creating job opportunities for the medical staff in the hospital. The center serves an estimate of 1,440 patients annually.
The second project provides the medical laboratory at the Republican Hospital with 15 medical instruments to conduct medical tests and store blood samples for 11,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries in the governorate.
This will raise the operational capacity of the laboratory to accommodate a greater number of patients and creates job opportunities. It serves about 10,965 people from Aden.
Speaking during the ceremony, Madkhali stated that the two projects will contribute to improving the quality of medical services, and increase the operational and production capacity of health facilities.
These projects are part of the package of development projects launched by the SDRPY which includes the construction of four schools, and paving and lighting projects for vital roads in the governorate.
They also include a project to develop al-Manasrah field by rehabilitating its wells, and to drill, equip, and operate new wells with water pumps and solar-powered generators to provide clean water to the people of Aden.
Other projects include the rehabilitation of the “Ali Asaad Muthana” sports hall and supporting the agriculture sector.
So far, SDRPY has launched more than 193 projects in seven main sectors: health, energy, transportation, water, education, agriculture, and fisheries. It also worked on enhancing the capacities of government institutions.
The projects were done in cooperation with the Yemeni government, local authorities, and civil society.
The program adopts best practices in development, reconstruction, and intellectual leadership in the field of sustainable development in Yemen, in order to strengthen the historical, cultural, and economic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
