Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman received on Sunday the first jab of the coronavirus vaccine as part of the Kingdom’s national occultation plan.

In a tweet, he said that he had received the first shot, expressing his complete pride in the Saudi people, “who, day after day, have proven their ability to overcome challenges and hardships with unwavering determination.”

He thanked the Saudi leadership that has prioritized the health of its people.

The Health Ministry said Sunday that more than 700,000 people have registered to receive the vaccine.

Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali pointed out that the increase in number of applicants reflects the society's increasing awareness to fight the pandemic.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent on Thursday a message of condolence to Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid over the victims of the fire that broke out in a shopping center in Kut city.

King Salman extended his warmest condolences and sincerest sympathy to the president, the families of the deceased, and the people of Iraq.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent Rashid a similar cable.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had expressed its deep sorrow over the fire, stressing the Kingdom's full support and solidarity with Iraq and its people during this tragedy.

The Ministry voiced the Kingdom's sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased and to the Iraqi government and people, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
