Saudi Arabia and the United States stressed the importance of confronting the novel coronavirus pandemic in order to support the recovery of the global economy.
In the first contact between the Kingdom and the new administration of President Joe Biden, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan held telephone talks on Wednesday to discuss the pandemic and other issues.
In a statement, the Treasury said Yellen underscored the importance of the bilateral relationship between Washington and Riyadh.
“She emphasized the need to address the daunting challenges of ending the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the global economic recovery, fighting income inequality, and forcefully addressing the threat of climate change,” it added.
She also noted the importance of joint collaboration, including in the G20 and other multilateral fora.
