President of the Palestinian National Initiative Ayed Yaghi said that Cairo has invited the Palestinian factions for the resumption of the national dialogue next week.
Yaghi confirmed an invitation to resume talks on March 16-17.
On Feb. 8, eighteen factions met in Cairo and agreed on holding legislative elections.
During the talks this month, they will discuss the Palestinian National Council (PNC) elections.
Hamas movement insists on reaching an agreement regarding the PNC’s elections before holding the legislative polls.
The upcoming talks are highly significant for the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, which has announced boycotting the legislative elections, but not the PNC’s.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has set legislative polls for May 22 and the presidential vote on July 31.
Results of the legislative elections are the first step towards forming the PNC, which will be finalized on August 31.
The Central Elections Commission had published details and conditions to run for the legislative elections, saying the phase for announcing candidacies extends from March 20 until March 31.
Among the conditions, the total candidates in each list should be a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 132, a quota for the representation of women should be considered, the candidate should not be under 28 and should be a permanent resident of the Palestinian territories and hasn’t been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor.
