Bahrain has appointed Khalid Al Jalahma as head of its diplomatic mission to Israel, state news agency BNA reported on Tuesday following a deal to establish relations last year.

Jalahma was previously director of the operations directorate at Bahrain’s foreign ministry and had also served as deputy chief of mission at the kingdom’s embassy in the United States.

The Israeli foreign ministry said that a team from Bahrain would arrive in Israel in coming weeks to make the necessary arrangements for the Bahraini embassy.

Bahrain’s move closely followed the United Arab Emirates’ naming of an ambassador to Israel after the two Gulf Arab states signed agreements last September to normalize ties with Israel in US-brokered deals.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday strongly condemned the attack on the Saudi hospital in the city of El-Fasher in Sudan.

The attack resulted in the death and injury of several people, violating international and humanitarian laws, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The Kingdom reiterated its rejection of these violations and emphasized the critical need to protect health and humanitarian workers, SPA said.

It urged self-restraint and the avoidance of targeting civilians, calling for adherence to the commitments made in the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, issued on May 11, 2023.

Saudi Arabia also extended its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims, wishing the injured speedy recovery.
