The Saudi Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that it was monitoring with concern the developments related to Iran’s nuclear program and its announcement that it will increase uranium enrichment to 60 percent.
Such a move cannot be part of a peaceful program, it remarked.
It called on Iran to avoid escalation and avert exposing the region to more tensions.
Tehran must engage seriously in the ongoing negotiations in line with the international community’s expectations that it dedicate its program to peaceful purposes and that it be monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency, it demanded.
Meeting the conditions will ensure that stability and security are achieved in the region and world and will limit the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, it continued.
The Kingdom stressed the need for the international community to reach a stronger and long-term nuclear deal that tightens the monitoring of the program and guarantees that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.
The deal must take into account the deep concern of countries in the region over Iran’s escalatory moves that are destabilizing the region, it stressed.
