A Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from his season at the University of North Carolina sold for $1.3 million dollars at auction organized by Heritage Auctions.

This is the only known jersey from Jordan's 1982-1983 season at the University of North Carolina, during which he was declared the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) player of the year.

The new item broke the previous record for a Jordan jersey, which was set in October when a Chicago uniform worn by him in the 1986-1987 season sold for $480,000 by the same auction house.

Jordan, who won six championships with the Bulls in the 1990s, has become one of the world's most renowned basketball celebrities, and owns the Charlotte Hornets team.
