Egypt received a new batch of Johnson & Johnson vaccines, as part of the state's plan on expanding the vaccination against the coronavirus.

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced Monday that the third shipment of the J&J vaccines, a total of 1,058,400 doses, has arrived.

The shipment came through the mechanism of the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team (AVAT) in cooperation with the African Export and Import Bank.

Health Ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed said that the latest shipment will be distributed to 1,100 vaccination centers across Egypt.

The statement pointed out that the shipment will be subject to analyses in the laboratories of the Egyptian Drug Authority.

The J&J vaccine has proven effective in preventing infection with the coronavirus, it added, and is a single-dose vaccine. It has obtained emergency use approval from the World Health Organization and the Egyptian Drug Authority.

Megahed called on the people to register on the official website to get the vaccine, asserting that the Egyptian state saves no effort to provide COVID-19 jabs for free for the citizens.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said that the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak has reached 324,619, including 18,285 deaths and 274,007 recoveries.

Egypt’s Health Ministry said Sunday that 886 new coronavirus cases were detected, while 43 patients died.

A gunman was dead and three policemen injured after a shooting near the Israeli embassy in neighboring Jordan, a security source and state media said on Sunday.
Police shot a gunman who had fired at a police patrol in the Rabiah neighborhood of Amman, state news agency Petra reported, citing public security, adding investigations were ongoing.
Jordan's government communications minister, Mohamed Momani, described the shooting as a terror attack that targeted public security forces in the country. He said in a statement that investigations into the attack were under way.
Jordanian police had earlier cordoned off an area near the heavily policed embassy after gunshots were heard, witnesses said. Two witnesses said police and ambulances rushed to the Rabiah neighborhood, where the embassy is located.
The area is a flashpoint for frequent demonstrations against Israel. The kingdom has witnessed some of the biggest peaceful rallies across the region as anti-Israel sentiment runs high over the war in Gaza.
Police had called on residents to stay in their homes as security personnel searched for the culprits, a security source said.
