French Minister of Culture Dr. Roselyne Bachelot visited on Saturday the historic area of Jeddah, as part of her current visit to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Minister toured various parts of Old Jeddah, to view its heritage sites and historic houses, which are on the Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), SPA said.
The minister was briefed on old facilities, neighborhoods and heritage landmarks, the news agency added.
Bachelot and Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Farhan Al Saud signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Under the 5-year agreement, Saudi Arabia and France have committed to enhancing cultural cooperation and exchange across a broad range of cultural fields, including architecture, audiovisual production, design, film, heritage, literature, performing arts and visual arts.
In addition, the MoU will facilitate the two countries to explore cultural regulations and policies. There will also be opportunities to increase the participation of Saudi and French artists in residency exchange programs and strengthen cooperation between artists and cultural institutions in both countries.
