Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh reaffirmed the firm position of Saudi Arabia against the terms “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” in a UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution.

“The terms in the resolution are not agreed upon (by Saudi Arabia) as they contravene the historical Arab and Islamic identity,” he said while noting that the Kingdom expressed its reservation over the unacceptable terms.

Al-Sheikh said that the crime of homosexuality is one of the most heinous and ugliest crimes in the sight of God Almighty.

“The perpetrators of these crimes are abhorrent to God, and they are disgraced and despicable in this world and the Hereafter,” he said.

The Grand Mufti emphasized that Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, firmly affirms its position towards these false claims and disgraceful slogans.

He said that human rights in general and the noble qualities of virtue, mercy, justice and righteousness in particular find first and foremost position in God’s law.

“Human rights... are first and foremost within God’s law and not in the perverted desires that sow corruption on Earth,” said the Grand Mufti.

At this period of time, the whole world is afflicted with false claims, corrupt slogans, and despicable perversion, which is intended to strip man of his humanity and of the finest characteristics that God has honored him with,” the Grand Mufti pointed out.

Earlier, Abdullah Al-Mouallimi, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the UN, rejected the UN resolution, saying that the terms are against Saudi Arabia’s history, as well as against the voice and legislation of many countries.

Saudi Arabia, Arab and Islamic Countries Condemn Israeli Knesset's Declaration on West Bank Sovereignty

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of a declaration calling for the imposition of "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.

This action, they said, is a blatant violation of international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which affirm the invalidity of all measures and decisions aimed at legitimizing the occupation, including settlement activities in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, SPA reported.

The parties assert that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory, emphasizing that this unilateral move has no legal effect and cannot alter the legal status of the occupied territory, including East Jerusalem, which remains an integral part of it.
They further emphasized that such actions will escalate regional tensions, already heightened by Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and its humanitarian consequences.

They urge the international community, particularly the Security Council, to act decisively against illegal Israeli policies that undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace and the two-state solution.

The parties reaffirm their commitment to the two-state solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, advocating for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
