The UN Security Council has unanimously slammed the “heinous terrorist attacks” on Abu Dhabi by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militias, and called to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attacks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Monday, 17 January, as well as in other sites in Saudi Arabia.”

They “underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.”

“Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” the Council said.

UAE’s ambassador to the United States said Thursday that cruise missiles and ballistic missiles alongside drones were used in Monday's deadly attack on the United Arab Emirates, which intercepted part of the attack.

The assault killed three civilians in Abu Dhabi.

The Security Council expressed its condolences to the families of the victims from India and Pakistan.

The statement came after the Council met behind closed-doors to discuss the Houthi attack on the UAE, which requested the discussion. The UAE joined the 15-member Council this month for a two-year term.

Lana Nusseibeh, UAE's ambassador to the UN, lauded the Council for speaking “with one voice" and said the Houthi “terrorist attack is a clear threat to the entire international community.”
