The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs has accused Israel of conspiring to kill the sick Palestinian detainee, Nasser Abu Hamid, after refusing to transfer him to a civil hospital despite his critical health condition.

Abu Hamid, 49, was earlier transferred to a clinic in Ramla prison from Barzilai hospital.

The sick prisoner should be immediately transferred to a civil hospital and receive medical treatment, the commission said in a statement, warning against keeping him in the prison’s clinic, where he has no access to advanced medical equipment required to monitor his condition.

The statement stressed that Abu Hamid still cannot use his limbs and is moving around in a wheelchair, adding that he needs permanent assistance to meet his daily needs.

It held the prison administration fully responsible for Abu Hamid’s situation and considered his transfer from Barzilai an “official decision to execute him.”

The Israeli occupation forces arrested Abu Hamid in 2002 and sentenced him to life in prison. His charges include “resisting” the occupation and participating in the establishment of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, the military wing of the Fatah movement in Jenin.

Abu Hamid, whose mother’s house was demolished by Israeli forces several times, began to suffer in early January 2021 from severe chest pains and difficulty in breathing.

The prison doctor’s diagnosis, which was not based on any laboratory tests, showed that he was suffering from a normal infection and only needed to take antibiotics.

His health condition began to deteriorate in August when he experienced excruciating chest pain before discovering a lung tumor.

The tumor was removed along with 10cm of circumference before being transferred again to the prison, where his condition worsened.

Although the doctors stressed that chemotherapy for Abu Hamid is a dire necessity, the Israeli prison authorities deliberately procrastinated.

Abu Hamid, from Al-Amari camp, Ramallah, is one of five brothers who were sentenced to life by the Israeli authorities. Their sixth brother was killed by Israeli forces.

A minibus collided with a heavy truck on a highway west of Cairo on Saturday, killing 10 people and injuring 24 others, Egypt's health ministry said.

The crash occurred near 6th of October City, a sprawling satellite city in Giza province on the western outskirts of the Egyptian capital, the ministry said in a statement.

Officials said 10 of the injured were in critical condition.

Health ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the casualty figures were preliminary and that officials were continuing to assess the situation.

The accident was the latest in a string of fatal road incidents in Egypt, where traffic accidents remain a persistent public safety challenge.

Such crashes are often blamed on reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance and uneven enforcement of traffic laws.

Road accidents in Egypt injure more than 75,000 people annually and kill over 5,000, according to Egypt's state statistics agency

Earlier this month, 13 people were killed and 34 injured when a large truck struck a tourist bus west of Cairo.

Last month, a bus crash in the Sinai Peninsula killed 22 people, including 10 Jordanian tourists.

In August, at least 18 people, many of them children, died in northern Egypt when two pick-up trucks transporting agricultural day laborers collided.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said on Saturday that border security with Jordan is a shared responsibility and a high-level meeting is expected next month to discuss arrangements.

Speaking at a security forum in Bahrain, he said there are no “skirmishes” between the countries. The comments came after Jordanian strikes in Syria raised tensions between the neighbors.

Jordanian border guards stopped a group of 14 armed individuals attempting to cross ‌into ‌northern Jordan from ‌Syria, the armed forces said in a statement on Saturday.

The group tried to ‌infiltrate on ‌Friday under ‌heavy ‌fire and direct engagement, causing numerous casualties ‌among the armed group, while the remaining members fled back into Syria, the armed forces said.

Jordan said that the strikes last week killed 20 militants with the ISIS extremist group, but acknowledged that civilians also had been killed.

Syrian authorities reported seven people killed, most of them women and children.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Saturday he was "extremely worried" that a new escalation in the war between the United States and Iran would be more destructive and have a major ‌impact.

He was ‌speaking at the ‌IISS Manama Dialogue security summit in Bahrain.

"The second round will be more dangerous, more destructive, and it will lead to nowhere. We have to draw lessons from the past," he said.

An interim agreement ‌reached in ‌June failed to secure a lasting ‌ceasefire in the Iran war ‌or restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has since proposed that Washington lift its ‌blockade of Iranian ports in exchange for Tehran reopening the disrupted waterway within seven days.

Qatari mediators returned to Tehran on Friday in a renewed effort to broker a deal, but the sides remain divided over whether nuclear negotiations or relief from the blockade and oil sanctions should come first.
