Bahrain’s King Holds Phone Conversation with Putin

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held on Tuesday a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bahrain News Agency reported.

Both leaders reviewed historical bilateral relations and their development in various fields, it said.

According to BNA, discussions also focused on the importance of a diplomatic solution to settle differences between countries through dialogue and peaceful means to avoid further escalation.

Discussing developments in Ukraine, both leaders emphasized the importance of concerted international efforts to ensure permanent and comprehensive peace and guarantee the interests of all parties and their national security, the news agency reported.

The King underlined the importance to take into consideration providing humanitarian aid and services to civilians in Ukraine and the need for all countries to assume their duty of funding the humanitarian operations announced by the United Nations according to the principles of human solidarity, it added.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Albudaiwi emphasized the strong and multifaceted relationship between the GCC and ASEAN countries during a roundtable discussion on "ASEAN's Journey Towards Unity: Lessons in Diplomacy and Regional Cooperation" at the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The roundtable was held on Tuesday at the invitation of the ASEAN organization.

Albudaiwi described the GCC-ASEAN relationship as successful, having developed over time. He cited the 2023 summit, where leaders from both blocs expressed their desire to strengthen ties, as reflected in the final communique.

Albudaiwi attributed the enduring and growing relationship to shared interests since their respective formations, significant economic and trade opportunities, and strong bilateral relations among member states.

He commended ASEAN as a model for regional cooperation, economic growth, and diplomatic stability, praising its diplomatic approach and multilateral cooperation in fostering unity amidst regional and global diversity.
