Qatar has affirmed its keenness to support the political consensus in Yemen and alleviate the suffering of the people.

Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received on Thursday Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, and his accompanying delegation.

The officials discussed the means to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

It added that Al-Alimi briefed the Emir of Qatar “on the main developments in Yemen,” and discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s official news agency (Saba) reported that Sheikh Tamim and Al-Alimi held an extensive meeting in Doha on Thursday in the presence of members of the Presidential Leadership Council and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani.

It noted that the Qatari Emir praised the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and peoples and underlined his country’s “keenness to support the existing political consensus within the Presidential Leadership Council, its economic and service reforms, and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.”

Al-Alimi also spoke about the reforms led by the Council in the economic, service and security fields, and the desired Qatari support in this context.

The visiting Yemeni delegation also met separately on Thursday with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, President of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
