The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, on Thursday praised Saudi Arabia's role in protecting the global economy and the stability of energy markets, and affirmed total rejection of the statements issued against the Kingdom following the decision of the OPEC+ group.

Hajraf expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, rejecting the statements against Riyadh and describing them as baseless and “lacking facts.”

Hajraf praised the “important and pivotal role” Saudi Arabia plays at the regional and international levels.

Saudi Arabia has a role in “protecting the global economy from fluctuations in energy prices and ensuring its supplies in accordance with a balanced policy that takes into consideration the interests of producing and consuming countries,” Hajraf pointed out.

He also highlighted the Kingdom’s historic role in addressing the world’s economic challenges in accordance with mutual respect among nations, promoting mutual interests, and maintaining regional and international peace.

The statement against Saudi Arabia “can not obscure the truth nor will they discourage Saudi Arabia from its balanced approach and advancing its duties and obligations as a fundamental pillar of security and stability in the region and the world," he stated.

Last week, OPEC+ decided to cut its oil production target.
