Six candidates including one woman won seats in a first phase of Bahrain’s parliamentary election, while others will compete for the remaining seats in the run-off next week. Bahraini voters had cast their ballots in polling stations across the kingdom on Saturday.
As per the electoral rules of Bahrain, a candidate must obtain more than half of the votes in a constituency to be elected. If no candidate achieves more than half the votes, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will go head-to-head in a run-off election.
The high committee for the integrity of the Council of Representatives elections announced the results of the first round of the parliamentary elections.
According to BNA, parliamentary elections witnessed a winner and run-offs in nine districts in the capital governorate, two winners and run-offs in six districts in Muharraq governorate, a winner and run-offs in 11 districts in the northern governorate, and a winner and run-offs in nine districts in the southern governorate.
As for municipal elections, the committee announced two winners and run-offs in six districts in Muharraq, two winners and run-offs in ten districts in the northern governorate, and two winners and run-offs in eight districts in the southern governorate.
The run-offs between the two contenders with the highest votes in the constituencies where there was no clear winner in the first round will be held on Saturday November 19.
King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa congratulated the people of Bahrain for turning out in large numbers for the Parliamentary and Municipal Elections 2022.
“We congratulate ourselves and our loyal people on this great achievement for our dear Kingdom,” the King said.
The massive turnout, he said, represents a landmark which will remain in the history of Bahrain for future generations.
“This achievement shows the keenness of Bahrainis to perform their national responsibilities with their free and independent will and interest in building their and their country’s future through constitutional institutions.”
The efforts of Higher Elections Committees, subcommittees, election workers, all concerned authorities, and volunteers are praiseworthy, said King Hamad.
He further said the people of Bahrain made the right choice in promoting the reform project, which has its basis in coexistence, pluralism, and diversity.
“This approach will remain a way of life and work for the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people,” said King Hamad.
