Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed on Monday with visiting CIA Director William Burns ways to enhance security and intelligence cooperation between Egypt and the US.

During the meeting held in Cairo, Sisi stressed the strength of Egyptian-American ties, the Egyptian presidential spokesperson said.

The president further highlighted the significance Egypt attaches to boosting the firm cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially on security and intelligence.

Egypt also focuses on backing efforts aiming at restoring stability in the Middle East in light of the current challenges.

The Egyptian presidency stated that Burns emphasized the importance and strength of Egyptian-US ties.

He affirmed that Washington was looking forward to boosting cooperation and partnership with Egypt which is “a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East.”

The armed wing of Palestinian group Hamas released a minute-long video Friday of an Israeli hostage held in Gaza looking weak and malnourished, inside a narrow concrete tunnel.

"They eat what we eat. It is the occupation government that has decided to starve them," the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades said in the caption of the video featuring a skinny and bearded man several Israeli media identified as Evyatar David, seized on October 7, 2023.

AFP could not independently verify the video's authenticity.
