Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received Tuesday at Al-Yamamah palace Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Beshara Al-Rahi, in an historic visit to the Muslim kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The landmark meeting tackled fraternal relations between the Kingdom and Lebanon and confirmed the importance of the role of different religions and cultures in promoting tolerance, renouncing violence, extremism and terrorism and achieving security and peace for the peoples of the region and the world.

The reception was attended by Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior; Minister of State and Cabinet Member Dr. Musa ed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban; Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir and Minister of State for Arab Gulf Affairs Thamer bin Sabhan Al-Sabhan.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, also received al-Rahi, SPA said.

The audience was attended by Sabhan.

Rahi began his visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday, being the second Christian patriarch to visit the Kingdom, after another such trip in 1975.

Rahi also met during his visit with Saad al-Hariri, who announced his resignation as Lebanon's prime minister on Nov. 4, saying he believed there was an assassination plot against him and accusing Iran and its Lebanese ally "Hezbollah" of sowing strife in the Arab world.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi has expressed his condemnation regarding the targeting of a World Food Program (WFP) aid convoy in the North Kordofan State in Sudan.

He characterized this assault as a grave violation of international humanitarian law and an unacceptable transgression of the rules and norms that safeguard humanitarian operations, SPA reported.

"The targeting of relief convoys and humanitarian workers is a reprehensible act that obstructs the delivery of vital assistance to those affected," he said, adding that such actions exacerbate the suffering of civilians, particularly given the dire humanitarian conditions currently prevailing in Sudan.

Albudaiwi also referenced the statement of the GCC Supreme Council’s 46th Session, which reaffirmed support for peace-building efforts aimed at preserving Sudan’s security, stability, and sovereignty.

The statement also underscored the commitment to political efforts to reach a ceasefire and achieve a political transition in Sudan through the establishment of an independent civilian government, fulfilling the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace, growth, and stability.
