The Sudanese Ministry of Defense has expressed its willingness to train Kuwaiti army officers in Sudanese military colleges and institutes in response to Kuwait’s desire to diversify and develop cooperation between the two countries.
Sudanese Defense Minister Lieutenant General Awad bin Awaf said that relations between Sudan and Kuwait were witnessing steady development in all fields, expressing his country’s readiness to meet the needs of Kuwait in military training.
Awaf made his remarks on Monday following a meeting in Khartoum with Kuwaiti Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant-General Mohammad Al-Khudher.
Al-Khudher arrived in Sudan Saturday for a two-day official visit. He was accompanied by the Head of the Military Training Institute Major-General Anwar Al-Mazeedi and Commander of Ali Al-Sabah Military College Major-General Bader Al-Awadhi.
The Kuwaiti military official noted that the Sudanese officers have contributed to the establishment of the Military College in Kuwait.
In this context, he expressed his country's desire to develop and diversify the areas of cooperation with the Sudanese armed forces, including the joint training projects at all levels.
A statement issued by the spokesman of the Sudanese Army, Brigadier Ahmed Shami emphasized that Awaf announced his country’s willingness to respond to the needs of Kuwait, in the fields of military training, in all Sudanese military colleges and institutes.
On a different note, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir issued directives allowing tourists to move within the country freely, except for restricted areas, increase the deployment of police forces and control smuggling operations.
The move is part of a package of presidential measures aimed at overcoming the economic crisis facing the country due to recent decisions by the Central Bank of Sudan and the controversial 2018 Budget Law.
The decision was made after a meeting on Monday chaired by Bashir and attended by the director of the security apparatus and the ministers of the economic sector.
