Yemen’s Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr condemned the Iranian regime’s continued support of the Houthi militias with ballistic missiles and praised the US firm stance against Tehran’s intervention in the region.
He also reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting international efforts to achieve peace in his country.
Bin Daghr’s remarks came during his meeting with US Ambassador Matthew Tueller, with whom he discussed latest developments on the Yemeni arena, and the UN and international efforts to push the peace negotiations forward.
Yemen’s official news agency noted that the two officials have tackled the continuous Iranian support of Houthi militias, by providing them with ballistic missiles and threatening international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait.
According to the agency, Bin Daghr expressed his country’s support for “the steadfast US position in support of the Yemeni legitimacy, the commitment to provide the necessary support to end the coup and support the aspirations of the Yemenis to build a safe and prosperous new federal Yemen that will contribute effectively to stability and global security.”
He also praised “the firm American stance against Iran’s ambitions and its support for terrorism and destructive projects in Arab countries through the financing of rebel militias.”
Saba Net quoted Tueller as saying that his country “rejects Iran’s interference in the affairs of Yemen, its continued support of the Houthi militias and the threat against the security of neighboring countries, particularly Saudi Arabia.”
The ambassador also praised the role of the Yemeni government in the fight against terrorism within an international partnership.
Bin Daghr has held a number of meetings over the past few days, with ambassadors of countries concerned with the Yemeni issue, to discuss developments in the UN peace efforts and means to support humanitarian relief work in Yemen.
