Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed the importance of attempts to reach a political solution in the Syrian war in a way that maintains the unity of the Syrian state and its territorial integrity.
Shoukry’s remarks came during his meeting with UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura who is on a visit to Cairo to discus the developments in Syria and ways to push a political solution forward.

Abu Zeid noted that the UN envoy was keen to inform the Egyptian Foreign Minister about the latest developments in Syria, political, security wise and at the humanitarian level, as well as his assessment of the international and regional efforts to push the political process forward.
Abu Zeid said that Egyptian efforts are ongoing to reach a political solution in Syria by preserving the structure and unity of the Syrian state and its territorial integrity.
He conveyed the foreign minister’s keenness to support efforts of the UN envoy and guarantee the success of his mission, underpinning that the political solution in Syria should also take into account the aspirations of the Syrian people.
