Yemen's Ministry of Defense and the Army’s Staff announced the death of Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Saleh al-Zindani, who passed away on Sunday after he sustained an injury during a drone attack by Houthis on a military parade in the southern Yemen airbase of al-Anad mid-January.
The Ministry of Defense and General Staff issued a statement describing his role in the army while serving his country.
“The martyr made great contributions while serving the country and his unit as one of the most qualified officers in the armed forces,” reported Yemeni News Agency (Saba).
It went on to describe Zindani while on duty, his professionalism, military discipline, and wide knowledge of his job's requirements and specialization, which enabled him to assume different roles in a number of military leadership positions.
The statement added that the armed forces are now “mourning one of their most courageous leaders, who have remained loyal to their military honor,” proving their will to continue restoring what's left under the Houthi control, committing to “their national duty and loyalty to the innocent martyrs and anyone who died serving his country and people.”
Saba also reported that President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi called the children, brothers, and family members of the late Major General and condoled them for their loss.
President Hadi spoke highly of Zindani's patriotic record in serving the army and his people, including his pioneering role in liberating the now temporary capital, Aden, in 2015 from the hands of the Iran-backed militia.
