Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Nasr al-Hariri slammed the international silence about “the massacre and the holocaust” being carried out by the Assad regime and Russian forces against civilians in the Syrian provinces of Idlib and Hama.
Hariri stressed that the Assad regime is using the threat of terrorism "as a pretext for killing innocent civilians."
The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) also expressed Hariri's condemnation of the "international media’s ignoring of the brutal bombardment the Assad regime and Russian forces have launched in Idlib since April 26 killing hundreds of civilians and forcing about 300,000 more out of their homes."
Hariri also played down the emergency UN Security Council meeting which was held on Friday to discuss the military escalation in Idlib.
He said he was disappointed by the lukewarm international response to the military escalation in Idlib.
According to SNC, Hariri recalled previous meetings by the UN Security Council on the military escalations in eastern Ghouta and elsewhere and the Council’s failure to enforce the resolutions it adopted during those meetings.
He further expressed his hope that the Friday UN Security Council meeting would not be a routine measure, "calling for clear position to force the Assad regime and its backers to stop their onslaught on Idlib."
Harir also called for a binding resolution by the UN General Assembly to avoid Russia’s use of veto and its disruption of the majority of the UN Security Council resolutions on Syria.
