Rome has taken new restricted measures against the misbehaving tourists by imposing new rules and regulations that ban everything from eating snacks to sucking on public water fountains.
The Italian capital has banned men from strolling around bare-chested, and visitors from attaching "love padlocks", and stated that violators could be fined up to 450 euros.
According to the new rules, visitors cannot eat snacks chaotically around the renowned tourist sites such as the Trevi Fountain, as well as wrapping the mouth around the nozzles of drinking fountains.
The city council updated rules from legislation dating back to 1947 and added a bunch of new ones banning the selling of skip-the-line tickets at places such as the Colosseum and the Vatican. Locals who dress up as Roman legionaries in hot tourist places in order to demand money from tourists for photos are also targeted. Authorities have also promised "severe fines" for those caught taking a dip in the city's fountains.
Some violations may only be faced with a mild tap on the wrist by the patrolling police officers, while others may be fined or prohibited from entering the area where the violation occurred.
"Rome is, and always will be, welcoming, but that does not mean tolerating bad behavior and damage being done to our city," Virginia Raggi, the mayor of Rome, told The Telegraph.
