Bahrain’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa reiterated on Friday the Kingdom’s unwavering stances in support of the Palestinian cause as emphasized by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa during last month’s Makkah summits, reported the Bahrain news agency (BNA).

The minister stressed that the Peace to Prosperity workshop, hosted in Manama earlier this week, was not a step towards normalizing ties with Israel, but it was an economic initiative in the interest of the region’s development in general and the Palestinian people in particular.

Speaking to Al Arabiya TV, Sheikh Khalid pointed out that Bahrain supports any effort aimed at development and stability to achieve the promising future for the region’s peoples.

He voiced great expectations for the workshop, which was organized by the United States, praising the participation of high-profile experts at the workshop, including the World Bank president, representatives from the private sector in the G5 nations and influential countries across the world.

The workshop offered great opportunities for the region’s peoples, especially Palestinians, of development, education and better living.

Moreover, he minister expressed appreciation of the US role in maintaining regional security without being dragged into military confrontation by Iran’s irresponsible and hostile behaviors.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
