Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said his country has been facing various challenges, including “a psychological warfare and fabrications aimed at raising suspicion and confusion, and spreading fear and terrorism.”

He also pledged to preserve his homeland and protect his state and its institutions.

Sisi’s remarks were made during audio in which he was addressing Egyptians on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of Oct.6, 1973 victory in the war waged to liberate the Sinai Peninsula from Israeli occupation.

Egypt was later engaged in long negotiations that ended with a “peace treaty” between the two sides and was concluded in 1979, under full US auspices.

Despite the historical nature of his speech, yet the events that have taken place in the country over the past weeks dominated its content.

Egypt has been witnessing anti-government demonstrations and large supportive ones over the past weeks.

“In recent decades, forms and methods of war have changed and are all aimed at destroying confidence between citizens and their national institutions,” Sisi said.

“These wars seek to portray the state as the enemy and foreign actors waging the war as the fortress and sanctuary.”

In September, an Egyptian Spain-based actor and contractor, Mohamed Ali, aired video footage containing charges deemed “offensive” to the army.

Sisi commented on some of these charges back then, affirming that they were baseless and untrue.

Ali’s call failed to rally protesters two weeks ago unlike government supporters, who gathered in support for the current rule.

Sisi stressed that foreign attempts to divide the land always end with deception due to people’s solidity and cohesion to their land and army.

He pointed out that the modern war, which relies on lies and rumors, could only be won through people’s awareness, beliefs and concepts, stressing that Egyptians will achieve victory because they have had enough of the deceitful parties that have been trying to bring Egypt down.

The European Union on Monday condemned new Israeli measures to tighten control of the West Bank and pave the way for more settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, AFP reported.

"The European Union condemns recent decisions by Israel's security cabinet to expand Israeli control in the West Bank. This move is another step in the wrong direction," EU spokesman Anouar El Anouni told journalists.

The atrocities unleashed on El-Fasher in Sudan's Darfur region last October were a "preventable human rights catastrophe", the United Nations said Monday, warning they now risked being repeated in the neighbouring Kordofan region.

"My office sounded the alarm about the risk of mass atrocities in the besieged city of El-Fasher for more than a year ... but our warnings were ignored," UN rights chief Volker Turk told the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He added that he was now "extremely concerned that these violations and abuses may be repeated in the Kordofan region".

The General Secretariat of the Arab League strongly condemned decisions by Israeli occupation authorities to impose fundamental changes on the legal and administrative status of the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and signed agreements, SPA reported.

In a statement, the Arab League said the measures include facilitating the confiscation of private Palestinian property and transferring planning and licensing authorities in the city of Hebron and the area surrounding the Ibrahimi Mosque to occupation authorities.

It warned of the serious repercussions of these actions on the rights of the Palestinian people and on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The statement reaffirmed the Arab League’s firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
