Libya's National Center for Disease Control has announced the country's second coronavirus-related death, keeping the total number of cases at 60 including 15 recoveries.
The center said it tested 156 suspected samples that came all negative. Yet, it said one death was recorded, without providing further details.
Al Hawari General Hospital in Benghazi affirmed Thursday that four cases recovered, and zero new cases were recorded in eastern Libyan cities.
Moreover, the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord reduced Thursday curfew hours in Libya’s western cities, making it from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. for ten days starting next Tuesday.
The Council noted that stores would remain closed, and that 10 percent of employees would handle administrative affairs from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. It added that banks would also open their doors, while stressing the importance of taking required measures to ban public gatherings.
National Oil Corporation (NOC) Chairman Mustafa Sanalla said that Ramadan came this year under different circumstances as the world faces the challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak.
NOC will exert all efforts to procure more medical equipment and assist its staff, he added.
Ahmed al-Hassi, spokesman for the medical committee to combat COVID-19 in Libya's eastern cities, said on Friday that there were no new cases in the region after the recovery of four people who had tested positive.
He called for lifting the lockdown imposed on the infected area in Benghazi, hoping that citizens would abide by the committee’s instructions on the curfew and the ban on public gatherings.
