Humanitarian and international organizations thanked Saudi Arabia for its constant support to the Yemeni people and highly valued the effective partnership with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), which contributed to alleviating the suffering of the needy and distressed all over the world.
The Saudi center signed on Thursday, via video call, three agreements with the World Food Program (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), all aimed at supporting the UN humanitarian response plan in Yemen for 2020.
WFP Executive Director David Beasley thanked the Kingdom for the much-needed support to the Yemeni people, describing the agreement between WFP and the KSRelief as a step forward and in the right direction to achieve more work.
“In 2018, we were facing conditions close to famine, and because of the generous support from the center and our other partners, we avoided its occurrence,” he said, adding: “Now we are facing similar situations, if not worse, because of Covid-19. We hope that this support will help us avoid starvation.”
WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Ahmed Bin Salem Al-Manzari underlined the importance of the joint agreement with KSRelief to support the health sector, environmental sanitation projects, the fight against the novel coronavirus and the different anti-malnutrition projects in Yemen.
He also lauded the fruitful cooperation with the Saudi organization to support those affected across the world, especially in Yemen.
UNHCR representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Ambassador Khaled Khalifa, noted that the agreement signed with KSRelief was focused on financing the commission’s shelter projects and programs aimed at reducing the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak in Yemen.
