The Saudi government reiterated on Tuesday the Kingdom’s strong condemnation of the terrorist attack that took place in Paris last week.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet meeting that was held virtually from Neom due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The government expressed its solidarity with France in wake of the “heinous crime”, stressing that it is “firmly opposed to violence, extremism and terrorism in all of their forms and motives.”
It called for respecting religious symbols and refraining from stoking hatred.
French teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded on Oct. 16 in broad daylight outside his school in a middle-class Paris suburb by an 18-year-old of Chechen origin. Police shot the attacker dead.
The government also hailed King Salman’s Royal Decree on the formation of the Shura Council, wishing the members success in their duties in implementing the comprehensive development plan led by the Kingdom’s wise leadership.
The ministers also highlighted King Salman’s speech before the closing ceremony of the G20 Youth 20 (Y20) Summit. They also reviewed the results of the strategic dialogue meetings between Saudi Arabia and the United States that tackled issues of common interest and that aim at maintaining and bolstering the partnership and cooperation between them.
The government tackled the G20 Interfaith forum that was hosted virtually by the Kingdom last week. It highlighted the gatherers’ stressing of the need to confront hate speech, promote the values of tolerance and cooperation and shun violence and discrimination.
Locally, the ministers underscored the gradual resumption of the Umrah pilgrimage and the latest developments related to the coronavirus outbreak.
