Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah stressed on Friday that the G20 Summit was being held this year amid extraordinary circumstances imposed by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Saudi Arabia has confronted the ensuing challenges “with determination and insistence,” he stated in remarks to the Saudi Press Agency.

Since assuming the presidency of the G20, he continued, the Kingdom has prepared a “comprehensive and ambitions agenda,” at the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the intense follow-up of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.

“The agenda has focused on empowering man, protecting the planet and shaping new horizons,” said the minister, with the aim of preparing the necessary conditions to empower people, especially women and the youth, and strive towards prosperity.

“Saudi Arabia has prioritized protecting lives and the economy from the impact of the pandemic,” added Prince Faisal.

It has shown particular attention to discussing policies related to individuals and the issues that affect their lives, he explained.

Saudi Arabia is seeking to tackle the pandemic with its global partners and agencies. It has sought to garner international efforts and hold virtual conferences and meetings out of its belief of the importance of joint cooperation in confronting global challenges in order to ease crises on the peoples of the world, he said.

The Kingdom hosts the summit on Saturday.
