Egyptian security authorities accused the Muslim Brotherhood of trying to “stir public opinion and spread rumors” by claiming Aisha Khairat el-Shater, daughter of the organization's leader, was in a serious health condition.
Egyptian authorities blacklisted the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization in 2013.
A security source denied the deterioration of the health condition of the inmate Aisha, who has been in prison since late 2018 on several charges.
The state-owned agency quoted the security source as saying that one of the pro-Brotherhood Facebook pages posted allegations about the deteriorating health of the inmate, saying she needed to be admitted to hospital for treatment.
The page also indicated that Aisha is denied access to food, drink, and medication.
The source noted that the inmate is placed in the prison's hospital and has a medical history prior to her imprisonment.
He explained that doctors have devised a treatment plan for her, noting that her case is monitored periodically.
Recent medical tests showed that Aisha's vitals are within normal range and her general condition is stable.
The source stressed that Aisha receives healthy foods as prescribed in her treatment program, in addition to what she receives from her family in accordance with the regulations.
The source considered that the allegations come within the framework of the Muslim Brotherhood's aim to spread lies and rumors, in an attempt to stir up public opinion.
Since November 2018, Aisha faces several charges, including “belonging to an outlawed terror organization and terror funding.”
Earlier this week, Egyptian security authorities denied reports claiming a detainee had died in al-Raml Police Department of the Alexandria Security Directorate. They also denied claims of “collective punishment” on prison inmates.
A security source said that the Brotherhood was behind these allegations, blaming the organization for spreading lies and rumors.
