Qatar’s Finance Minister Ali Sherif al-Emadi arrived in Cairo on Tuesday at the head of delegation for a brief visit.
He was the first Qatari official to fly over Saudi and Egyptian territory directly from Doha since the Gulf row broke out in mid-2017.
He had arrived on a private flight to attend the inauguration of a luxury hotel developed by Qatari Diar, sources at Cairo airport and Qatari embassy officials said according to Reuters.
He was set to return to Qatar early on Wednesday.
The completed Nile-side St. Regis hotel had long stood idle during the Gulf boycott of Qatar.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Maait and US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin.
The project is worth more than $ 1.3 billion and boasts two towers comprised of 515 units covering an area of 9,360 square meters.
