Saudi Arabia has signed Power Purchase Agreements for seven new solar power projects in various regions in the country that will power more than 600,000 households, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said Thursday.

The projects will have more than 3,600 megawatt capacity, in addition to the Sakaka solar and Dumat al-Jandal wind projects.

"These projects, along with other renewable energy projects, which are being developed across the Kingdom, constitute essential elements of our plans that seek to optimize the energy mix used to produce electricity," the Crown Prince said.

They are the result of Saudi King Salman’s directives and the Kingdom’s aim to develop its economy, in accordance with Vision 2030’s renewable energy initiatives.

The Crown Prince said that by 2030 the aim was for gas and renewables to each account for a 50% share of the Kingdom's energy mix to produce electricity. And that this would substitute about 1 million barrel of oil equivalent of liquid fuels.

Saudi Arabia aims “to nationalize the renewable energy sector, promote the local content, and enable the manufacturing of the components of solar and wind energy production locally, allowing the Kingdom, within the next ten years, to become a global hub for conventional energy, renewable energy and their technologies,” he said.

“We are well aware of our share of responsibility in advancing the fight against climate change. In continuation of our leading role in the stability of the energy markets, we will forge ahead to play the same role to lead in the area of renewable energy,” he added.

Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain said they intercepted new Iranian attacks overnight, while Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said early on Wednesday that it had launched an attack on US bases in Iraq's Erbil with drones and missiles, according to Iranian state media.

Jordan said it intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched from Iran. Three other missiles fell in remote areas, the official Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported early Wednesday. No casualties were reported.

The Kuwaiti military also said its air defenses intercepted “hostile drone attacks” coming from Iran. It added that the explosions heard across the Gulf state were caused by the interception operations. Bahrain said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed Iranian drones over the kingdom.

Iran had earlier said it targeted US military bases in Jordan in response to previous US attacks. Iran had already attacked US bases in Jordan.

Iranian media outlets reported attacks on a US base in Bahrain. No official confirmation was made.

On Tuesday, the United States and Iran said they had carried out new attacks against each other. US President Donald Trump said the United States had again targeted Iranian sites near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement carried by state media, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched a “combined missile and drone attack” on US bases in Erbil, destroying a maintenance facility and warehouses containing technical equipment belonging to the US military.

The statement added: “Ground forces fighters also set fire to the base's fuel tanks and killed a number of attackers”.

Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi held on Tuesday a series of high-level meetings in London with officials from the UK Home Office and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism, addressing escalating threats in the digital sphere, and supporting countries' capabilities to counter terrorist organizations and fortify societies ideologically.

Al-Moghedi met with Director, Counter Terrorism, Homeland Security Group, at the UK Home Office Jemima Murray.

They discussed the growing dangers of online extremism and rapid transformations in the digital environment, which extremist groups and organizations exploit to spread their ideology, recruit individuals, and influence thoughts and beliefs.

During his visit to London, Al-Moghedi also met with a high-level delegation from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, including Head of the UK's Counter Daesh Communications Cell Martyn Warr and other officials.

During the meetings, the secretary-general reviewed the IMCTC's areas of work in combating terrorism and the specialized programs and initiatives it implements to support member states and build their capabilities according to their needs and the challenges they face.

He stressed the importance of international partnerships and the integration of efforts in confronting terrorism, particularly considering the evolving tactics of extremist organizations and their increasing use of technology and digital platforms for recruitment and the dissemination of extremist ideologies.

The meetings are part of the IMCTC's efforts to expand its international partnerships and strengthen cooperation with institutions and entities concerned with combating terrorism, thereby supporting its mission to assist member states, develop their capabilities, and enhance regional and international security and stability.

Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia Jennifer Larson affirmed that LEAP 2026 in Riyadh reflects the growing momentum in US-Saudi relations in the field of technology, the Saudi Press Agency said on Wednesday.

She explained that the strategic commitment between the two countries is now translating into tangible steps on the ground, including Qualcomm's opening of its new office in Riyadh, the participation of dozens of US companies in LEAP 2026, and their direct engagement with Saudi partners through a program to accelerate commercial cooperation in artificial intelligence.

She noted that deepening Saudi-US cooperation in technology presents a shared challenge that not only accelerates innovation but also ensures it proceeds rapidly and securely.

Larson affirmed the commitment of American companies and the US Embassy to working alongside Saudi partners to achieve this standard, which will enhance cooperation in technology and artificial intelligence and create opportunities for innovation and partnership between the two countries.
