Egypt and the US held talks on Tuesday on coordinating efforts to combat common challenges and maximize military cooperation.
According to an official statement, the Egyptian armed forces said its navy’s commander Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled met with Vice Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander US Naval Forces Central Command, US 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces in Alexandria’s Ras Al-Tin Naval Base.
They discussed coordinating efforts on means to combat common challenges and threats to the security and stability of the region and maximizing Cairo’s participation in the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) to commensurate to its pivotal role as a powerful force for the region.
Paparo affirmed his country’s keenness on increasing the aspects of naval cooperation with Egypt through the expansion of joint training, adding that Egypt is key to peace and security in the Middle East.
Khaled praised the development of joint military cooperation relations between the navies of both countries, especially in the technical fields and the exchange of expertise in maritime security operations, cybersecurity and joint training.
Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohamed Farid attended the main stage of the military training project “Fateh 2021”, which was executed by a unit of the Southern Military Region.
The main stage of the project included demonstrating procedures taken during preparations for battles and mobilizing the main force to execute the planned tasks.
It further included setting plans to clear one of the Red Sea islands and a border village from infiltrated terrorist elements. It also included executing atypical firing with live ammunition.
The participating forces have shown “high combat skills and accuracy in executing the planned and emergency tasks with high efficiency,” a spokesperson said.
