Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is seeking to acquire Germany-based company EMT, which is specialized in developing drones.
The revelation was made as a response by the German Federal Ministry of Defense during the debriefing of deputy party leader with the Left Tobias Pflueger.
The dpa received a copy of the response, which revealed that no green light was granted to this acquisition.
The German firm is currently working on restructuring itself after its bankruptcy. It is responsible for developing the Luna NG drones for the army.
The reply by the Ministry also stated that Rafael informed the Procurement in the German Armed Forces that it has an exclusive agreement with EMT (with the current general representative in bankruptcy proceedings).
However, the transaction is subject to investment protection review, which has yet to be carried out.
Pflueger said the Israeli firm will likely proceed with the update of LUNA, adding however, that the party opposes the use of drones for surveillance purposes.
