The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, Leonid Slutsky, called for the need to discuss the US aggression on the Syrian-Iraqi border at the UN Security Council, noting that Washington strikes with one hand and sends humanitarian aid with the other.
Speaking to reporters in Moscow, Slutsky described Washington’s act as “barbaric and illogical behavior.”
He criticized the Western draft resolution to extend the so-called humanitarian corridors used by the US under the pretext of sending humanitarian aid to Syria.
The US aid is misunderstood as Washington “bombs in one hand and sends humanitarian shipments in another hand,” which indicates barbaric and irrational acts, according to Slutsky.
The official pointed out that Moscow is committed to communicating with other parties to find solutions on the platform of the UN Security Council, not unilaterally, as the US did.
Slutsky stressed that the Security Council platform is capable of resolving all contentious issues at the negotiating table, especially those related to Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that seven members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) have been killed in the US attack in eastern Deir Ezzor at the Iraqi borders.
The London-based Observatory said in a press statement that the attacks also destroyed weapons warehouses and another military post of the militia.
The PMF admitted that US planes bombed its headquarters on the Iraqi Syrian border, which led to the death of a number of its forces.
Commander of the 14th Brigade, Ahmed al-Maqsusi, said in a press statement that US warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting the headquarters near the Iraqi Syrian border, which led to the death of several members of one faction and threatened to retaliate.
US President Joe Biden issued orders to launch airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Syria.
The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) confirmed that the border area with Iraq in the far eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor was subjected to an “aerial attack by warplanes after midnight,” which caused the death of a child and the injury of three civilians.
SANA quoted local sources in Deir Ezzor on Monday that “warplanes believed to be American attacked with missiles at around 01:00 a.m. on Monday residential houses near the Syrian-Iraqi borders in the countryside of al-Bokmal.”
