Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stressed that the Arab world faces many challenges, especially in reducing unemployment rates after new work patterns emerged following recent changes in the world.
Sisi’s remark came during a speech the Egyptian Manpower and Immigration minister Mohamed Safaan gave on his behalf at the 47th session of Arab Labor Conference (ALC) in Cairo on Sunday.
Sisi said there is no doubt that all changes require the Arab world to adopt appropriate strategies to advance comprehensive Arab development as well as enhancing and supporting economic cooperation, exchanging information and expertise, and working to remove obstacles and barriers for integration among Arab countries.
He asserted the need to promote new and advanced mechanisms to achieve comprehensive Arab integration by facilitating intra-regional trade, the exchange of goods and services, as well as facilitating the movement of labor between the Arab countries.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed the importance of completing the path of Arab economic integration to eliminate unemployment and make better use of Arab resources.
He also underlined the significance of bridging the development gap between Arab countries.
Also speaking at the ALC conference, Aboul Gheit stressed that the Arab League is working towards completing the status of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
He said that the 22-member body is also working to finalize the development of several Arab agreements that would facilitate the movement of workers and capital within the Arab world.
The secretary-general called on the Arab Labor Organization and its partners from the three trade union parties to work to unify and modernize labor legislation in line with ongoing developments and in a way that contributes to the integration of Arab labor markets.
