A number of security officials at the Israeli government suspect that Iran is stalling the Vienna talks on signing a new nuclear deal in order to stockpile uranium.
Informed sources said that this position was reached following a security cabinet meeting held in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening.
In a report issued during the meeting, the officials agreed that the Israeli cabinet sees that diplomatic efforts made for renewing those negotiations have reached a stalemate.
They even said such efforts would fail to oblige Iran to respect previous commitments made under the accord in exchange for seeing Washington coming back to the deal or lifting sanctions that it imposed on Tehran in 2018.
Based on assessments in Israel, the Iranians are using the time to continue to enrich uranium to dangerous levels.
“Iran is not only delaying such a return to negotiations, but could have no interest in resuming the talks at all,” reported Israel’s Kan 11 television.
An Israeli security official claimed in the report that nuclear talks that aim to revive the deal have already reached a “dead-end.”
The report said some countries that participated in the Vienna talks are more aware of this situation than they were a few months ago.
“Israeli security reports unanimously point to the fact that Iran is standing at the nuclear accord’s threshold, without any agreement deterring it,” the report said.
