National Guard units carried out on Tuesday a naval exercise, named Kifah-1, to combat terrorism and protect vital oil installations on the eastern coast of Bahrain.

In a statement, the National Guard said the exercise comes as part of a series of maneuvers conducted periodically to raise naval and military capabilities.

The drill was conducted on an offshore oil facility on the eastern coast of the kingdom, to evaluate the Guard’s capabilities in command and control systems and progressive plans to protect vital marine facilities and secure their locations.

Major General Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Khalifa, National Guard Chief of Staff, inspected the drills, stressing they were consistent with the efforts deployed to support all security institutions, “in order to enhance the pillars of security and stability and preserve the nation’s gains and achievements,” according to the statement.

He also praised the efforts of the National Guard units in successfully implementing the stages of the exercise with high professionalism, which underlined the permanent readiness to meet the call of duty in various circumstances.

The statement added that the outcome of the naval exercise reflected the continuous progress in the training tracks, which would enable the military institution to perform its national duties with efficiency and competence.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
