Renowned scholars, theologians, and religious leaders from Islamic nations have emphasized the significance of the upcoming International Islamic Conference to be held in the sacred city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The conference, held under the theme “continuity and integration,” aims to address pertinent issues and challenges while drawing upon the expertise of participating scholars to establish a profound understanding of these matters.

This prestigious event, titled “Engaging with Religious Affairs, Fatwa, and Spiritual Leadership Worldwide,” is being held under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, the two-day conference is scheduled to take place on August 13-14, with the participation of 150 scholars and clerics representing 85 countries.

Dr. Rashid Al Hajri, the head of the Sunni Endowments Council in Bahrain, emphasized the paramount significance of the conference.

He stated that it stands as a pivotal assembly aimed at advancing the mission of the religious institution amidst contemporary challenges.

Al Hajri highlighted that Saudi Arabia leads the Islamic effort across political, religious, and intellectual spheres, earnestly pursuing stability and peace for all nations within the region.

Furthermore, Al Hajri underscored that the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs plays a significant role in rectifying and addressing errors within both the scholarly and intellectual domains.

This is accomplished through the propagation of moderation, temperance, and the fight against extremism, terrorism, and foreign ideologies that encroach upon the Muslim community.

Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, affirmed the profound significance of the conference that brings together members of the Islamic Ummah in the vicinity of the Holy Kaaba.

He emphasized that the conference’s themes encompass a multitude of sublime Islamic concepts, serving as a means to strengthen collaborative bonds among the Ummah’s members.

This event serves as a platform to highlight solidarity and harmony among Muslims.

Derian emphasized that Islam is a religion of moderation, rejecting extremism and fanaticism, especially in the name of religion.

It calls for temperance, balance, love, and cooperation among nations. He underscored the importance of upholding moderation in both public and private life, devoid of rigidity, excesses, or extremism.

Moreover, Derian lauded Saudi Arabia’s countless efforts in establishing principles of tolerance and peace, cultivating a culture of moderation and temperance, supporting the causes of the Arab and Islamic nations, advocating for truth and justice worldwide, and promoting the ideology of moderation.

He commended the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for their dedication to uniting the Arab and Islamic world and striving for unity and solidarity.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
