The Saudi Ministry of Defense, represented by the General Administration for Strategic Communication, has won the Sharjah Government Communication Award in the category "Best Communication Strategy for Dealing with a Crisis,” among 15 global contestants.

The Deputy Governor of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, presented the award on Thursday to the Director General of the Department of Strategic Communication at the Ministry of Defense Agency for Strategic Affairs, Abdulrahman bin Sultan, at a ceremony held at the Sharjah International Communication Center, coinciding with the conclusion of the 12th session of the International Government Communication Forum.

The award jury, which includes several specialists and experts in media and government communication, chose the General Directorate of Strategic Communication to win the award in recognition of its efforts to achieve excellence in the government communication sector; the effectiveness of its practices in implementing communications campaigns; its use of digital platforms and local, regional and international media to reach the target audience; innovation and proactive visions; and the impact and results achieved.

Criteria for winning the award included the success of the General Directorate of Strategic Communication at the Ministry of Defense in managing and implementing communication strategies to deal with crises, including a communication campaign to highlight the efforts of the Saudi Armed Forces in evacuating citizens and nationals of friendly countries from Sudan to the Kingdom, which is considered the largest humanitarian evacuation of its kind in the world.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
