Mo Salah reached a century of goals in English football as Liverpool beat Brentford 3-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Salah struck in each half at Anfield and Diogo Jota added a third as Jurgen Klopp's team moved up to second in the standings, above Arsenal on goal difference.

The win maintained the Merseyside team's 100% home record this season.

Salah fired Liverpool ahead in the 39th minute and scored his landmark 100th in England with a header in the 62nd. Jota struck in the 74th.

Salah's goals saw him continue his outstanding form this season by moving on to 12 for the campaign in all competitions. The Egyptian has now scored 17 in his last 15 home games.

Liverpool's recent form had been less impressive having been held to a surprise 1-1 draw against Luton in the league last week. That was followed by a 3-2 loss to Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday.

And Liverpool could have been behind against Brentford when Bryan Mbeumo ran through on goal in the first half. It was left to goalkeeper Alisson to keep the score level with a one-on-one save.

The home side was in front shortly after when Salah struck.

Darwin Nunez had his back to goal when collecting a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold just inside the box and had the vision to slip the ball into the run of Salah on the right.

The Egypt striker made no mistake with a left-footed shot low into the far corner.

His second came from a header after Kostas Tsimikas lifted a cross from the left to the far post.

Brentford's players appeared to stop, believing the ball had gone out of play. But Salah was alert enough to head home and after a VAR review, the goal stood.

Jota completed the win when carrying the ball to the edge of the box and rifling a shot into the far corner.

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah said his team was not among the favorites to win the Africa Cup of Nations title, but insisted they would give their best to go deeper in the tournament in Morocco.

Liverpool forward Salah scored the third goal to secure Egypt's spot in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 3-1 extra-time victory over Benin on Monday.

Hossam Hassan's side are bidding to win the title for the first time since 2010 and a record eight times overall.

"I don't think we are a favorite at all (to win the title)" Salah told reporters.

"We have young players, and most of them play in Egypt. We just fight for our country... but everybody gives their best and you could see today".

According to Reuters, the 33-year-old said there were no easy games in AFCON.

"The level is quite similar, I told the team yesterday that no side loses by four or five goals. (Benin) have a good team and a good coach... I'm glad we managed to win in the end". Salah has scored 10 goals in 22 games in the AFCON, two fewer than Hassan El-Shazly, Egypt's all-time top scorer in the tournament and one fewer than his current coach Hassan.

Egypt will face defending champions Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals in Agadir on Saturday.

The prize fund for this year's Australian Open has been increased by 16% to A$111.5 million ($74.88 million), making it the largest purse in the tournament's history, organizers announced on Tuesday.

The two singles champions will each pocket A$4.15 million, up from the A$3.5 million which Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys took home last year, Reuters reported.

"This 16% increase demonstrates our commitment to supporting tennis careers at every level," said Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley.

"From boosting qualifying prize money by 55% since 2023 to enhancing player benefits, we're ensuring professional tennis is sustainable for all competitors."

The US Open offered the largest prize fund of the Grand Slams last year with $90 million, while Wimbledon offered a total of 53.5 million pounds ($72.49 million) and the French Open 56.35 million euros ($66.12 million).

First-round losers at the Australian Open will walk away with A$150,000, a hike of 14% from 2025, while the qualifying rounds will see the largest hike of 16%. Those falling in third round of qualifying will earn A$83,500.

The prize money increase is part of Tennis Australia's $135 million investment across the "Summer of Tennis", which Tiley said, "strengthens tennis's foundation, ensuring the sport's long-term health and commercial growth".

The Australian Open runs from January 18 to February 1 at Melbourne Park.
